Trade Rumors: Timberwolves Offering Derrick Williams to Lakers for Pau Gasol

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the rumor mill is about to be working at an all time high!

You will hears rumors that don’t make any sense and rumors that make you go hmm. With the nonsense of “Twitter sports” and “sources” don’t take anything as fact until you see something happen.

While Derrick Williams has been a solid pick up for the Minnesota Timberwolves, it seems as though the wolves are interested in something more. Minnesota is reported to be offering the Lakers Derrick Williams and future picks for Forward Pau Gasol.According to Chris Tommason from Fox Sports the Minnesota Timberwolves have expressed interest in trading for Lakers F Pau Gasol.

…a source said Wednesday that Minnesota continues to pursue a possible trade for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, dangling rookie Derrick Williams, who is from the Los Angeles area, and draft choices. The only players considered untouchable by the Timberwolves, who are seeking to add a veteran by the trade deadline, are Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio.

This could be a good thing for the Lakers as it is obvious they are in need of a guard and need help in the back court. Williams can bring that to the Lakers. Recent reports have also stated Lakers having interests in guards Allen Iverson, JR Smith, and even Gilbert Arenas.

LakerNation however makes a good point:

For the Lakers to consummate any deal with the Timberwolves, one would have to assume that the talks would begin and end with Kevin Love, who just signed a contract extension to remain in Minnesota. Since the “source” tabbed Love as untouchable, I would categorize this rumor along with the 5,000 others that we will all hear about in the next month that nothing will ever come of.
