Welcome to the offseason. Where athletes do stupid things.

According to The Detroit Sports Site, the ’ tumultuous offseason added another chapter over the weekend, as projected starting cornerback was arrested in Pennsylvania on suspicion of driving under the influence and other charges, Tom Leyden of WXYZ reported.

According to Leyden, Berry was arrested at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday morning after the car he was driving near the Hilton Harrisonburg Hotel hit multiple parked cars. Berry then allegedly exited his car and tried to walk away from the scene, but was followed by a witness, who called police. More from Leyden’s report:

According to a source, Berry was not cooperative when asked for personal information during the booking process and also refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.

Berry was issued a series of summonses for the charges and was released. He is awaiting arraignment.

It always boggles me when these athletes get pulled over and arrested for DUI’s. They seem to always have a crazy posse (i.e. Desean Jackson, Chris Johnson) but always end up behind the wheel. After poppin bottles and spending ridiculous amounts of money in the club you would think ONE would have common sense to just pay for a driver. But hey, that would require just TOO much thinking I suppose.

Berry has since released a statement:

“I want to offer a sincere apology to the Lions organization, Lions fans, the coaches and all my teammates for my actions this past weekend,” Berry said in a statement released by Paradigm Sports Management, which represents the Lions’ cornerback. “This is not the example I want to set for young people and it’s certainly not what my team and coaches expect from me. I promise to do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again. I understand these are just words and it will be my future actions that ultimately will speak for me.”
