The quotatious and great Shaquille O’Neal held his retirement press conference at his home in Orlando,Fl. The big fella talks about his career, where the NBA stands without him, and what he’s doing as a retired NBA player.
If you were one of the few that missed it, check out the video and a few side notes when you read on.
With a few key points pointed out by my girl Jill over at JocksandstilettoJill, I feel the need to chime in.
- “Phil Jackson taught me how to focus and get to the Championship level. Doc Rivers always maintained teamwork” —Uh #shade to Pat Riley and Mike Brown.Oh! No mentions though?
- “In light of today, I am retiring all my nicknames. The Big Aristotle, Shaq-Fu, The Big Shamrock, The Big Cactus, The Diesel, and finally, the one and only, original, never to be duplicated or replicated … Superman.” he said. “From now on, you can call me The Big AARP. Association for the Advancements of Retired Persons.” —Really tho? Wonder how long it took him to think of this one
- Believes the league is in great hands with KOBE (yes his name was said first), LeBron, DWade and Melo. Also said that Dwight Howard is the only true big man left and he expects him to win 3 or 4 Championships. — Shaq says it he would be disappointed if Dwight doesn’t retire with atleast 3 rings. Was this a hint for him to leave Orlando and follow in his footsteps?
- Shaq will be Dr. O’Neal by December or January as he’s working on his PHD — *crickets. okay.
